Energy + Seasonal Shifts

Why Energies Shift

Have you ever felt the change of seasons? I’m not talking about the leaves turning, the snow falling, the flowers blossoming. I’m talking the shift. The energetic change that occurs when we enter a new phase.

Sometimes, this change feels good, it feels renewing and inspiring. Other times, it can feel heavy, dull, slow.

Some of the factors that affect energy levels might surprise you!

🌞 The sun is a powerful star that not only provides us light and warmth, but can boost serotonin in the body, giving us that mood enhancement we crave in summer months. When the days become shorter in the winter, this can change how our bodies are responding chemically. Shorter days means more melatonin gets created and we start to feel more tired and ready to call it a night by 6pm. 😅

🤸🏻‍♂️ Seasonal changes often influence our routines. In warmer months, we might spend hours outdoors hiking, exploring, or socializing. In colder months, we retreat indoors for gaming, streaming shows, or staying cozy at home. This shift in movement, light exposure, and social interaction can impact not just energy levels, but our overall mood and vitality. Research on seasonal affective disorder (SAD) shows that even minor lifestyle shifts can influence mental and physical health.

Tuning Into Your Energy

💆‍♀️ Understanding these changes can help us honor our natural rhythms instead of fighting them. Practices like gentle yoga, meditation, sound healing, and reflective journaling can help balance energy during these seasonal transitions. Just as the earth rests and regenerates in winter, we too can create space for reflection, restoration, and mindful intention-setting.

This idea of intentional wintering - slowing down, tending to ourselves, and recharging - is something I’ll be exploring in an upcoming Wintering event. We’ll dive into practices that honor your energy shifts, helping you emerge from the season renewed and ready for the year ahead.
